Aquamarine is the blue variety of the mineral beryl, a beryllium aluminum silicate with the formula Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈. Its color doesn't come from the beryl itself, which would be colorless in its pure form, but from traces of divalent and trivalent iron ions in the crystal lattice. That's why its colors range from an almost colorless pale blue through a soft sea blue to blue-green. With a Mohs hardness of 7.5 to 8, it is one of the harder gemstones and well suited to everyday wear. It typically has a clear, glassy luster that brings the polished teardrop to life even in low light.
You can choose between 925 sterling silver and a warm 14K gold-filled setting. 14K gold-filled is a real, thick layer of gold that is firmly bonded to a base metal. Unlike simple gold plating, which is applied only wafer-thin, wears off over time, and fades fairly quickly, 14K gold-filled keeps its warm gold tone for years. The aquamarine is cut into a soft teardrop, polished, and drilled, so it sits calmly at the center of the necklace and hardly twists as you wear it. It hangs on a fine chain with closely interlocking square links. You choose the length when you order: 45 cm (17.7 in) or 40 cm (15.7 in).
In antiquity, aquamarine was already seen as a lucky stone for sailors, who carried it for protection on their crossings. It only got its current name in the Renaissance, from the Latin aqua marina, meaning seawater. By tradition, it stands for clarity, calm, and speaking openly. As a birthstone for March, it also makes an especially personal gift.
The pendant and chain are water-resistant and suitable for everyday wear. To make your necklace last as long as possible, though, you should avoid prolonged contact with salt water and chlorinated water, as well as perfume, lotions, and harsh cleaning products. After contact with ocean or pool water, it's best to rinse the necklace with clean water and dry it carefully.
Aquamarine shouldn't be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner and should be protected from high heat and sudden changes in temperature, because temperatures that are too high can change its color. Store your necklace dry and apart from harder pieces of jewelry, so the polished surface of the teardrop doesn't get fine scratches. This way, the clear blue of the stone and the surface of your necklace will stay beautiful for a long time.

Aquamarine is the official birthstone for March and is traditionally linked to the zodiac signs Pisces and Aries. In ancient times it was already considered a lucky stone for sailors. By tradition it is said to stand for clarity, calm and open communication, which makes it a personal gift for anyone born in March.
The stone is genuine aquamarine, the blue variety of the mineral beryl, and neither glass nor an imitation. Like almost every aquamarine on the market, it has been gently heat-treated to remove its greenish tint. This treatment takes place at about 400 to 450 °C (750 to 840 °F), it is accepted in the jewelry industry, and the resulting color stays stable. I disclose it openly so you know exactly what you're wearing.
The aquamarine is cut into a teardrop, polished and drilled. The fine chain runs through this hole, so the pendant rests calmly in the center and barely twists while you wear it. The square links of the chain fit tightly together, and their clean, geometric line makes a lovely contrast to the soft shape of the teardrop.
14K gold-filled is the higher-quality choice, and that's exactly why I only offer 14K gold-filled. Gold-plated jewelry has just a wafer-thin layer of gold on top, which wears off over time and fades faster. 14K gold-filled, on the other hand, has a much thicker, firmly bonded layer of gold. It costs a little more than plating, but it lasts so long that you won't have to keep buying new necklaces, and you can enjoy its warm gold tone for years.
The pendant and chain are water-resistant. Still, avoid prolonged contact with perfume, lotions and harsh cleaners, don't use ultrasonic cleaners, and keep it away from high heat and sudden temperature changes. Store the necklace dry and separate from other jewelry so the polished surface of the aquamarine doesn't get fine scratches.

Origin of the stones
Every stone has a journey and I want that journey to be fair and transparent.
Origin · Aquamarine
The aquamarine in this necklace typically comes from the pegmatites of the Shigar Valley in Pakistan, before each drop is hand assembled in my studio.
