Aquamarine is the blue gem variety of the mineral beryl, a beryllium aluminum silicate from the group of ring silicates. Its color doesn't come from dye but from traces of iron that sit firmly in the hexagonal crystal lattice. That's why its shade ranges from soft pale blue through sea blue to blue-green. With a Mohs hardness of 7.5 to 8, it is one of the hard gemstones and well suited to everyday wear. Emerald and morganite belong to the same mineral family. It typically has a glassy luster that makes the stone look lively even in low light.
You can choose between 925 sterling silver and a warm 14K gold-filled setting. 14K gold-filled is a real, thick layer of gold that is firmly bonded to a base metal. Unlike simple gold plating, which is applied only wafer-thin, wears off over time, and fades fairly quickly, 14K gold-filled keeps its warm gold tone for years. The wire is wrapped by hand around each raw stone individually, so the setting follows the natural shape of your stone. The pendant hangs on a fine chain with closely interlocking square links. You choose the length when you order: 45 cm (17.7 in) or 40 cm (15.7 in).
In antiquity, aquamarine was already seen as the stone of sailors, who took it with them for protection on long voyages across the sea. Its name goes back to the Latin aqua marina and simply means seawater. By tradition, it stands for clarity, calm, and an open outlook. As a birthstone for March, it also makes an especially personal gift.
The pendant and chain are water-resistant and suitable for everyday wear. To make your necklace last as long as possible, though, you should avoid prolonged contact with salt water and chlorinated water, as well as perfume, lotions, and harsh cleaning products. After contact with ocean or pool water, it's best to rinse the necklace with clean water and dry it carefully.
Aquamarine shouldn't be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner or with steam and should be protected from high heat and sudden changes in temperature, because both can change its color. Store your necklace dry and apart from harder pieces of jewelry, because even a hard gemstone can be damaged by a strong knock. This way, the clear blue of the stone and the surface of your necklace will stay beautiful for a long time.

Aquamarine is the official birthstone for March and is traditionally linked to the zodiac signs Pisces and Aries. In ancient times it was already considered the sailors' stone. By tradition it is said to stand for clarity, calm and an open outlook, which makes it a personal gift for anyone born in March.
Aquamarine on the market is often heated to remove a greenish tint and deepen the blue. The raw stone on this necklace is untreated: not heated, not irradiated, not dyed. What you see is the natural color of the stone, which is why each one turns out a little lighter or more intense.
The necklace comes in two lengths. 45 cm (17.7 in) is the classic length and falls softly onto the neckline. 40 cm (15.7 in) sits higher on the neck and highlights the collarbone. If you're not sure, measure a necklace you like to wear and choose the closest length.
14K gold-filled is the higher-quality choice, and that's exactly why I only offer 14K gold-filled. Gold-plated jewelry has just a wafer-thin layer of gold on top, which wears off over time and fades faster. 14K gold-filled, on the other hand, has a much thicker, firmly bonded layer of gold. It costs a little more than plating, but it lasts so long that you won't have to keep buying new necklaces, and you can enjoy its warm gold tone for years.
The pendant and chain are water-resistant. Still, avoid prolonged contact with perfume, lotions and harsh cleaners, don't use ultrasonic cleaners, and keep it away from high heat and sudden temperature changes. Store the necklace dry and separate from other jewelry, because even with a Mohs hardness of 7.5 to 8, aquamarine can be damaged by a hard knock.

The aquamarine in this necklace typically comes from the pegmatites of the Shigar Valley in Pakistan, before each raw stone is set by hand in my studio.
