Rock crystal is the colorless, transparent variety of the mineral quartz, made of silicon dioxide. Its purity doesn't come from any treatment but from the absence of coloring ions in the crystal lattice. In amethyst, iron ions sit there and make it look violet. Rock crystal has none. It crystallizes in the trigonal system as six-sided prisms, and with a Mohs hardness of 7, it is pleasantly durable for everyday wear. It typically shows a glassy luster on its natural crystal faces and a softer, greasy luster on broken surfaces, so the raw stone flashes in a new way whenever the light changes.
You can choose between 925 sterling silver and a warm 14K gold-filled setting. 14K gold-filled is a real, thick layer of gold that is firmly bonded to a base metal. Unlike simple gold plating, which is applied only wafer-thin, wears off over time, and fades fairly quickly, 14K gold-filled keeps its warm gold tone for years. The wire is wrapped by hand around each raw stone individually, so the setting follows the natural shape of your stone. The pendant hangs on a fine chain with closely interlocking links, so it lies smoothly against your neck. You choose the length when you order: 45 cm (17.7 in) or 40 cm (15.7 in).
Its name goes back to the Greek word krystallos, which means ice. In antiquity, people believed clear quartz was ice frozen so deeply that it could never thaw. For centuries, it was made into seals, lenses, and spheres. By tradition, it stands for clarity, purity, and an alert eye for what really matters.
The pendant and chain are water-resistant and suitable for everyday wear. To make your necklace last as long as possible, though, you should avoid prolonged contact with salt water and chlorinated water, as well as perfume, lotions, and harsh cleaning products. After swimming in the ocean or a pool, it's best to rinse the necklace with clean water and dry it carefully.
Rock crystal has no cleavage and breaks with a shell-like fracture. Even so, a hard knock on an edge can damage the raw stone. So store your necklace dry and apart from harder pieces of jewelry, and protect it from sudden changes in temperature. This way, the clarity of the stone and the shine of your setting will last for a long time.

The rock crystal lacks the coloring ions that make amethyst appear violet and citrine yellow.

Rock crystal is the name for the colorless, completely clear variety of the mineral quartz, chemically silicon dioxide. A genuine raw stone shows naturally grown faces, curved, shell-like fractures and often fine natural inclusions. Hardness is a second clue: with a Mohs hardness of 7, rock crystal scratches window glass, while glass imitations can't.
Both are quartz, so chemically they are the same mineral. In amethyst, iron ions sit in the crystal lattice, and together with natural radiation they create the purple color. Rock crystal lacks these coloring ions, so it stays colorless and clear. Its purity is a property of the stone itself, not the result of a treatment.
A raw stone keeps the shape it grew in inside the rock, with natural edges and broken surfaces. A cut stone is shaped into an even, polished form. On this necklace every rock crystal is left in its natural state, so no two pieces are alike and you get a true one-of-a-kind piece.
14K gold-filled is the higher-quality choice, and that's exactly why I only offer 14K gold-filled. Gold-plated jewelry has just a wafer-thin layer of gold on top, which wears off over time and fades faster. 14K gold-filled, on the other hand, has a much thicker, firmly bonded layer of gold. It costs a little more than plating, but it lasts so long that you won't have to keep buying new necklaces, and you can enjoy its warm gold tone for years.
The pendant and chain are water-resistant. Still, avoid prolonged contact with perfume, lotions and harsh cleaners, and rinse the necklace with clean water after swimming in salt water or chlorinated water. Store it dry and separate from other jewelry, because even though rock crystal is hard, it is sensitive to hard knocks against an edge.

Origin of the stones
Every stone has a journey and I want that journey to be fair and transparent.
Origin · Rock crystal
The rock crystal in this necklace typically comes from the quartz deposits of Minas Gerais in Brazil, before each raw stone is set by hand in my studio.
