Cookies and Web Analytics with Microsoft Clarity

We want to understand how visitors use our store so that we can improve our pages, our navigation and the way we present our products. For this purpose we use the analytics service Microsoft Clarity. The provider is Microsoft Corporation, One Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA 98052, USA. The contact for the European Economic Area and Switzerland is Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, One Microsoft Place, South County Business Park, Leopardstown, Dublin 18, Ireland ("Microsoft").

Clarity records how you move around our website, for example the pages you visit, clicks, mouse movements, scroll depth and time spent on a page. It also collects technical information such as device type, browser, screen size, your IP address to determine your approximate location, and a pseudonymous identifier. This is used to create heatmaps, which are aggregated views of where people click or scroll most often, and session recordings that reconstruct the course of a visit. Entries in form fields, such as your name, email address or postal address, are masked by Clarity and are not recorded in plain text.

The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Section 25(1) of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG). Clarity only becomes active once you agree to statistics or analytics cookies in our cookie banner. Without this consent, Clarity does not set any cookies and does not create any recordings. You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future by opening the cookie settings on our website again and removing your consent.

Microsoft stores session recordings for 30 days. Heatmaps and click data, recordings we have marked, and a small sample of individual recordings are stored for up to 13 months and then deleted.

According to Microsoft, the collected data is also used to improve its own products, for security and fraud prevention, and for advertising purposes (Microsoft Advertising). This may involve a transfer of data to the USA. Microsoft Corporation is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The European Commission has determined that certified companies provide an adequate level of data protection. For more information, please see the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

Once you have given your consent, Clarity may set the following cookies:

Name Purpose Type
_clck Stores a pseudonymous Clarity user ID and preferences so that return visits are linked to the same ID. First-party cookie (by-carola.com)
_clsk Connects several page views into one session. First-party cookie (by-carola.com)
CLID Identifies when Clarity first saw this browser on any website using Clarity. Third-party cookie (Microsoft)
MUID Identifies browsers visiting Microsoft websites. Microsoft uses it for advertising, analytics and operating its services. Third-party cookie (Microsoft)
MR Controls whether the MUID identifier is refreshed. Third-party cookie (Microsoft)
SM Synchronises the MUID identifier across Microsoft domains. Third-party cookie (Microsoft)
ANONCHK Indicates whether MUID is passed on to the advertising cookie ANID. With Clarity the value is always 0. Third-party cookie (Microsoft)

Google Ads, Conversion Tracking and Remarketing

We advertise our shop with Google Ads, for example with ads in Google Search, on Google Shopping, on YouTube and on other websites. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland ("Google"). For these ads, we send product data such as titles, prices, images and availability to Google through the Shopify app "Google & YouTube". This product data does not contain any personal data.

To measure whether our ads lead to visits and orders, we use the Google tag with Google Ads conversion tracking through the same app. Events in our shop are sent to Google, for example pages and products viewed, searches in the shop, items added to the cart, the start of checkout and completed orders with order value, currency and products. This also includes technical information such as your IP address, browser, device type and the ID of the ad you clicked. Google may store and read cookies and similar technologies in your browser for this purpose. When you place an order, your email address, phone number, name and address may also be sent to Google in encrypted (hashed) form so that Google can match the order to an ad more accurately (enhanced conversions). We only receive aggregated reports from Google that do not identify you personally.

Google may also use this information to show you ads for our products later on other websites and in Google services (remarketing) and to improve the delivery of our ads. If you are signed in to a Google account, Google may link the data to your account. You can change your settings for personalized ads at any time at myadcenter.google.com.

The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Section 25(1) TDDDG, which you give in our cookie banner with the "Marketing" category. Without this consent, we do not use Google conversion tracking or remarketing. You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future by opening the cookie settings on our website again and removing your consent.

Depending on the cookie, Google's cookies are stored for up to 13 months. You can find out which cookies these are in our Cookie Policy. Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA. Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. For certified companies, the European Commission has determined an adequate level of data protection. You can find more information in Google's Privacy Policy.

We recommend that you do not use unsecure channels to communicate sensitive or confidential information to us.

How long we retain your personal information depends on different factors, such as whether we need the information to maintain your account, to provide you with Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes or enforce other applicable contracts and policies.

If you reside in the UK or European Economic Area, and subject to exceptions and limitations provided by local law, you may exercise the following rights in addition to the rights outlined above:

  • Objection to Processing and Restriction of Processing: You may have the right to ask us to stop or restrict our processing of personal information for certain purposes.
  • Withdrawal of Consent: Where we rely on consent to process your personal information, you have the right to withdraw this consent. If you withdraw your consent, this will not affect the lawfulness of any processing based on your consent before its withdrawal.
