Rose quartz is the pink variety of the mineral quartz, made of silicon dioxide. Its color doesn't come from dye but from microscopically fine fibers of a borosilicate similar to dumortierite, which scatter the light inside and give the stone its soft, slightly milky pink. With a Mohs hardness of 7, it is pleasantly durable and suited to everyday wear. Rose quartz grows in granite pegmatites and hydrothermal quartz veins, where it usually forms massive, granular aggregates rather than individual crystals. It typically has a glassy luster and is translucent.
You can choose between 925 sterling silver and a warm 14K gold-filled setting. 14K gold-filled is a real, thick layer of gold that is firmly bonded to a base metal. Unlike simple gold plating, which is applied only wafer-thin, wears off over time, and fades fairly quickly, 14K gold-filled keeps its warm gold tone for years. The wire is wrapped by hand around each raw stone individually, so the setting follows the shape of your stone. The stone measures about 8 to 10 mm, which keeps it delicate enough for every day. The pendant hangs on a fine chain. You choose the length when you order: 45 cm (17.7 in) or 40 cm (15.7 in).
Rose quartz owes its name to its color and has been seen as the stone of love since antiquity. In Greek legend, Eros, the god of love, is said to have brought it to earth. For centuries, its soft pink has been linked with affection, gentleness, and warmth of heart. That's why a rose quartz necklace is still a popular gift for the people you care about.
The pendant and chain are water-resistant and suitable for everyday wear. To make your necklace last as long as possible, though, you should avoid prolonged contact with salt water and chlorinated water, as well as perfume, lotions, and harsh cleaning products. After contact with ocean or pool water, it's best to rinse the necklace with clean water and dry it carefully.
Rose quartz is sensitive to UV light and heat. Its delicate pink can fade in long periods of direct sun. So store your necklace in a protected, dry place, apart from harder pieces of jewelry, and skip ultrasonic and steam cleaning. This way, the soft pink of the stone and the surface of your necklace will stay beautiful for a long time.

Rose quartz has been known as the stone of love since ancient times. According to Greek legend, Eros, the god of love, brought it to Earth. By tradition it is said to stand for affection, gentleness and warmth of heart, which makes it a personal gift for the people you care about.
Every rose quartz on this necklace is a genuine natural stone that I use untreated: no heating, no irradiation, no dyeing. Its pink comes from microscopically fine fibers of a dumortierite-like mineral inside the stone. What you see is the natural color of the raw stone.
Unlike many gemstones, its color doesn't come from trace elements dissolved in the crystal lattice. Recent mineralogical studies show that extremely fine fibers of a dumortierite-like borosilicate inside the quartz scatter the light. This scattering is exactly what gives rose quartz its soft pink, slightly milky glow.
14K gold-filled is the higher-quality choice, and that's exactly why I only offer 14K gold-filled. Gold-plated jewelry has just a wafer-thin layer of gold on top, which wears off over time and fades faster. 14K gold-filled, on the other hand, has a much thicker, firmly bonded layer of gold. It costs a little more than plating, but it lasts so long that you won't have to keep buying new necklaces, and you can enjoy its warm gold tone for years.
The pendant and chain are water-resistant. Still, avoid prolonged contact with perfume, lotions and harsh cleaners, and don't use ultrasonic cleaners. Store the necklace somewhere dry and protected, because the soft pink of rose quartz can fade in long, direct sunlight. That way the color will last for years.

The rose quartz in this necklace typically comes from the pegmatites of Minas Gerais in Brazil, before each raw stone is set by hand in my studio.
