An opal is made of silicon dioxide and bound water, usually four to nine percent. Because it has no crystal form, it counts as a mineraloid. With a Mohs hardness of 5.5 to 6.5, it is softer than quartz and needs a little consideration. This opal bracelet carries a small heart made of opal, polished smooth and set in a gold bezel that protects its edge from knocks. Colorful flecks flicker across the white base and travel over the stone with every turn of your wrist.
The bracelet, setting, and spring rings are made of 14K gold-filled, and the opal bracelet is available in gold only. The gold layer is so substantial that it stays beautiful for a long time, even on the wrist, where thin gold plating quickly looks worn. The chain is a cable chain: oval links that interlock crosswise in alternating directions and let the bracelet drape softly. The 19 cm (7.5 in) bracelet closes with a spring ring clasp. In my studio in Oberhausen, I hang the opal heart on its own small spring ring, so you can move it later or add more charms. I also finish the bracelet itself there by hand.
The Romans associated opal with love and hope. Later, in Europe, it was considered a stone of purity and truth. In the shape of a heart, this message doubles. That's why an opal bracelet makes a gift for the people you hold dear.
The 14K gold-filled bracelet is water-resistant, but the opal heart isn't made to get wet all the time. Frequent contact with soapy water, dish soap, and hot water will affect it over time. So it's best to take off your opal bracelet before you wash your hands with soap, do the dishes, or shower.
Strong heat lets the water bound in the opal escape, and that can lead to fine cracks. So don't leave the bracelet lying in direct sun, and take it off before the sauna. Clean the heart only with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Store the bracelet flat in a box, away from harder stones.
Opal is amorphous and does not form crystals, so it counts as a mineraloid.

The Lumière Factor is my transparent assessment of each stone's play of light. This opal isn't meant to be see-through. Its charm lies in its play of color. That's why I leave out transparency and rate it in 3 categories of 0 to 25 points each.

The bracelet is 19 cm (7.5 in) long and closes with a spring ring clasp. For a loose fit, it should be about 1.5 to 2 cm (0.6 to 0.8 in) longer than your wrist, so it's ideal for wrists around 17 cm (6.7 in).
Yes, the opal heart is attached to the bracelet with its own spring ring clasp. The heart also fits on a chain, and the bracelet has room for more charms, such as the aquamarine, the sun or the oval cultured freshwater pearl.
The bracelet itself is water-resistant, but the opal should stay as dry as possible. So take it off before washing your hands, doing the dishes or showering. If the heart does get wet, simply pat it dry with a soft cloth.
With a Mohs hardness of 5.5 to 6.5, opal is softer than quartz, which is found in household dust, so it can get scratched over time. It doesn't like hard knocks, high heat or sudden changes in temperature. It's best to take the bracelet off for gardening, sports or the sauna.
Yes, an opal heart is a gift that comes from the heart, and anyone born in October also gets their birthstone with it. It arrives gift-ready in a box with the Handmade Art by Carola lettering.
