Each of these heart hoop earrings carries a small opal heart. Opal is hydrated silicon dioxide without a fixed crystal form, which is why experts classify it as a mineraloid. Its interior consists of tiny spheres that diffract light and create a play of bright colors. The hearts are cut as smooth cabochons, meaning without facets, so the play of color glows undisturbed across the surface. Green, blue, and violet appear on the white base. Set in a slim gold bezel, each heart swings freely below the round curve of the hoop.
The hoops and settings are made of 14K gold-filled and are available in gold only. The gold layer of this material is much thicker than on gold-plated jewelry and permanently bonded to the base metal, so the warm gold tone lasts a long time. The hoops are fine and light, so the little heart can play the leading role. A tiny ring connects the heart and the hoop, so the heart can turn freely. I hang the hearts by hand in my studio in Oberhausen and check with every pair that both swing freely. You always receive the heart hoop earrings as a pair.
The Romans called opal opalus, precious stone, a word that probably goes back to the Sanskrit upala. For centuries, the heart has been the symbol of love. Together, they make these heart hoop earrings a tender gift, especially for people with an October birthday, because opal is their birthstone.
The gold hoops are water-resistant, but with the opal, it's better to be careful. Shampoo, chlorine, and perfume attack its surface, and high heat draws water out of it. So take your heart hoop earrings out before you shower, swim, or go to the sauna, and put them back in only after styling.
Open the fine hoops gently and don't bend them open, so they stay round. Clean the hearts only with a soft, slightly damp cloth, without ultrasonic cleaners or steam. Store the hoops closed in a small pouch to protect the opal from scratches by harder jewelry.

Opal is usually cut without facets as a cabochon, which shows off its play of color best.
Strong heat can draw the water out of opal, which is why it does not like saunas.

The Lumière Factor is my transparent assessment of each stone's play of light. This opal isn't meant to be see-through. Its charm lies in its play of color. That's why I leave out transparency and rate it in 3 categories of 0 to 25 points each.

With the hoops, a fine ring goes through the ear piercing, and the opal heart swings just below your earlobe. With the drop earrings, it sits on an ear hook and hangs a little lower. Both styles have the same opal heart.
Heart hoops look playful yet delicate. With your hair down, the opal hearts peek out only now and then, while with a braid or a bun they show their full play of color. With the opal heart necklace, they make a harmonious set.
Yes, the hoops always come as a pair, each with an opal heart. The hoops and the settings are made of 14K gold-filled.
Opal contains bound water, usually four to nine percent. High heat can draw this water out, and then fine cracks can form that disturb the play of color. That's why radiators and direct midday sun are not good places to leave your hoops.
Yes, a heart speaks for itself, and for October birthdays, opal is also the right birthstone. They come in a black box with gold lettering that you can give as a gift right away.
