This morganite necklace carries a genuine morganite, the pink variety of the mineral beryl. That makes it a close relative of aquamarine and emerald. The chunky raw stone shimmers in a soft pink and lets plenty of light through. It owes its color to traces of manganese. With a Mohs hardness of 7.5 to 8, morganite is hard and well suited to everyday wear. It got its name in 1911 from the gem expert George Frederick Kunz, in honor of the American banker and collector John Pierpont Morgan.
I wrap every crystal by hand, one at a time, using 14K gold-filled wire. A twisted frame holds the stone securely, and a curved line runs across it. 14K gold-filled is a thick, firmly bonded layer of gold that keeps its warm tone for years, unlike wafer-thin gold plating. You can add a fine Venetian chain in 14K gold-filled in 45 cm (17.7 in) or 40 cm (15.7 in), or take the pendant on its own.
No two morganites are alike, and no wrap turns out the same twice. That's why this morganite necklace exists exactly once. Once it's sold, it's gone. By tradition, morganite is considered a stone of love and compassion. That makes this piece a loving gift for someone close to your heart.
The pendant and chain are water-resistant. To keep the shine for a long time, take the necklace off before swimming in salt water or chlorinated water, and keep perfume, lotions and harsh cleaners away from it. Morganite is hard, but ultrasonic cleaners, high heat and hard knocks are still not good for it. It's best to store the necklace dry and apart from your other jewelry.
