The Stone: Green Tourmaline as a Raw Crystal
This tourmaline necklace carries a genuine green tourmaline, also called verdelite, in its natural crystal form. The crystal shows a rich, deep forest green and, along its sides, the fine lengthwise grooves that are typical of tourmaline. Looking down its length, green tourmaline often appears almost black, while from the side it glows green, because it shows different shades depending on the viewing direction. With a Mohs hardness of 7 to 7.5, the stone is hard enough for everyday wear.
Material and Craftsmanship
I wrap every crystal by hand, one at a time, and this one with 925 sterling silver wire. A twisted frame holds the stone securely, and a curved line runs across it. The cool silver goes beautifully with the deep green of the tourmaline. You can add a fine Venetian chain in 925 sterling silver in 45 cm (17.7 in) or 40 cm (15.7 in), or take the pendant on its own.

Caring for Your Tourmaline Necklace
The pendant and chain are water-resistant. To keep the shine for a long time, take the necklace off before swimming in salt water or chlorinated water, and keep perfume, lotions and harsh cleaners away from it. Silver can darken over time, and a soft silver polishing cloth brings back the shine. Ultrasonic cleaners and high heat are not good for tourmaline, and it's best to store the necklace dry and apart from your other jewelry.

Green tourmaline is also called verdelite, from verde for green and the Greek lithos for stone.
