Charm Hoop Earrings: The Little Sun
With hoop earrings, a round ring goes straight through the piercing. These charm hoop earrings each carry a sun of about 9 x 11 mm, its face shaped in relief and surrounded by pointed rays. The hoop and the sun repeat the same round form, which makes them look calm and clean. The sun is made entirely of metal: 925 sterling silver or 14K gold-filled, which is a thick layer of real gold over a base metal. With no stone, the hoops are water-resistant and made for every day.
Material and Craftsmanship
The ring of each hoop is slim and light, so the sun takes center stage. You choose between 925 sterling silver and 14K gold-filled, and the hoop and sun are always made of the same metal. 14K gold-filled is made by permanently bonding a layer of gold to a core of less precious metal under heat and pressure. The gold layer is much thicker than gold plating and doesn't rub off as quickly. A tiny ring connects the sun to the hoop so it can move, and it follows every turn of your head. The hoops are made in pairs, by hand, in my studio in Oberhausen. The charm hoop earrings always come as a pair.
Meaning of the Circle and the Sun
The circle has always stood for wholeness and connection with no beginning and no end, and by tradition the sun stands for light and vitality. The astronomical symbol for the sun is still a circle with a dot in the middle. These hoops bring both symbols together in one piece of jewelry.
Caring for Your Charm Hoop Earrings
Your hoops are water-resistant and can stay in while you shower and swim. To keep them shiny for a long time, give them a quick rinse with clean water after chlorine or salt water. Hairspray and perfume leave a thin film on the metal, so put the hoops in after styling.
Open and close the hoops gently so the fine ring keeps its round shape. Polish silver hoops with a silver polishing cloth when they darken, and wipe gold ones with a soft cloth. Store the hoops closed and apart from other jewelry so they don't bend or get scratched.
