Each of these gemstone hoop earrings holds an aquamarine, a blue gemstone from the beryl family. Chemically, it is a silicate of beryllium and aluminum, like emerald, except that traces of iron color it blue instead of green. The stone is cut into a rectangle with many small facets. Below the round curve of the hoop, its straight shape forms a clear contrast. It is set in a slim bezel that protects its edges. With a Mohs hardness of 7.5 to 8, aquamarine is one of the harder gemstones.
I make the aquamarine hoops in gold only: the rings and bezels are 14K gold-filled. With this material, a thick layer of 14 karat gold is permanently bonded to a base metal, and it doesn't rub off after a short time the way thin gold plating does. The hoops themselves are delicate and light, so they stay comfortable to wear even for many hours. The aquamarine hangs freely from the hoop on a small ring and swings with every movement. I assemble each pair by hand in my studio in Oberhausen and make sure both stones hang evenly. They are always delivered as a pair: two hoops, each with one stone.
As a birthstone, it belongs to March, and old tales make it a companion of sailors. The world's largest cut aquamarine shows how much it still fascinates people today: the Dom Pedro weighs 10,363 carats and was cut by gem artist Bernd Munsteiner from Idar-Oberstein.
Your gemstone hoops are water-resistant. You can keep them in while you shower and swim, but you should give them a quick rinse with clean water after chlorine or salt water. Hairspray and perfume tend to settle in the corners of the setting, so apply both before you put the hoops in.
Open and close the fine hoops carefully so they stay round and the clasp closes cleanly. For cleaning, lukewarm soapy water and a soft brush are all you need, and the brush also reaches the back of the bezel. Afterward, lay the hoops on a cloth to dry and store them closed, away from softer jewelry.

Below the round curve of the hoop, the rectangular stone creates a clear contrast.
Aquamarine, emerald, and morganite all belong to the beryl mineral group.
According to tradition, sailors took aquamarine on board because it was meant to calm the waves, and today it is the stone of those born in March.

On the hoops, a slim gold ring goes through the ear piercing, and the stone swings just below your earlobe. The drop style holds the same aquamarine on an ear hook, so it sits a bit lower. If you like a compact look, choose the hoops.
Small hoops with a stone add color without looking loud. With white, beige and denim, the light blue of the aquamarine really stands out. Together with the aquamarine necklace, they make a calm, coordinated set.
Yes, the hoops always come as a pair. Each hoop holds a rectangular-cut aquamarine in a gold bezel. The ring and the setting are made of 14K gold-filled, which means metal with a thick layer of real gold.
Yes. Water won't harm the hard aquamarine or the 14K gold-filled rings. If you wore them in the pool or the ocean, hold them under fresh water for a moment afterward.
Aquamarine is a beryl, like emerald, and with a Mohs hardness of 7.5 to 8 it holds up well to everyday wear. Its blue comes from traces of iron and stays stable even in sunlight. The largest cut aquamarine, the Dom Pedro, weighs a remarkable 10,363 carats.
