Box Chain Necklace without Pendant: The Chain for Your Charms
You wear this box chain necklace without a pendant, simply on its own or as the base for your charms. It is also known as a Venetian chain. Its links are tiny square boxes that interlock closely. That's why the chain looks the same from every side and lies evenly against your neck. It is the same type of chain that many of my pendants hang on. You can get it in 14K gold-filled or 925 sterling silver, each in 45 cm (17.7 in) or 40 cm (15.7 in).
14K Gold-Filled or 925 Sterling Silver
With 14K gold-filled, a substantial layer of 14K gold surrounds a core made of another metal. The two layers are permanently bonded with pressure and heat, so the warm gold tone lasts much longer than with thin gold plating. 925 sterling silver is 92.5 percent pure silver, and the rest makes the metal stronger. It has a cool, bright shine and can darken a little over time, but a soft polishing cloth makes it shine again. The chain looks best when it matches the metal of your pendant: gold pieces on the gold box chain, silver ones on the silver chain.

You can hang the charms from my shop on the box chain: the Opal Heart Charm, Aquamarine Charm, Sun Charm, or Oval Cultured Pearl Charm. Pendants you ordered without a chain also find their place here. With two charms side by side, you create your own little combination.
Care and Length
The chain is water-resistant, so showering and washing your hands won't hurt it. Still, put it on only after your perfume and lotion have soaked in, so the shine stays fresh longer. A soft pouch or the gift box it arrives in is ideal for storage. When needed, gently rub it with the polishing cloth from the box.
At 45 cm, the box chain falls to just below your collarbone. At 40 cm, it sits closer around your neck. If you layer several necklaces, the two lengths complement each other well. As a gift, it suits anyone who already owns a charm or pendant and is looking for the right chain to go with it.

The classic length is 45 cm (17.7 in), which works with most necklines. The 40 cm (15.7 in) length sits shorter and is a good choice if you want to wear a second, longer necklace with it. If in doubt, go with 45 cm.
