Its color comes from very fine iron oxides embedded between the quartz fibers. Depending on their amount and distribution, the tone ranges from light orange to a rich reddish brown. A slightly cloudy color pattern is typical, and you can see it clearly when you hold this translucent teardrop up to the light.
